Full-Strength United Begins PSL Campaign Against Zalmi

On Sunday, 30 January, two-time PSL champions Islamabad United will face last year’s finalists, Peshawar Zalmi, in the fifth match of the PSL 2022. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. PST at Karachi’s National Stadium.

Match Preview

Peshawar will try to keep their winning streak going in a high-octane match at National Stadium Karachi against Islamabad United. In their previous match, Peshawar pulled off an incredible run-chase against Quetta Gladiators, chasing down a 191-run target to earn their first points on the PSL points table.

The inclusion of captain Wahab Riaz and veteran wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal, who have fully recovered from COVID-19, would give Zalmi an extra boost.

Islamabad, on the other hand, will be making its maiden appearance of the season. In the PSL 6 group stages, Islamabad was the team to beat. The Red Hot Squad won 8 of their 10 group stage matches, breaking the record for most group stage wins in a single PSL edition. In the playoffs, they faltered and were eliminated in the second eliminator by Zalmi.

X-Factor

While a few individuals contributed to Peshawar’s victory in the previous match, they struggled a little in the bowling department. Wahab Riaz is anticipated to turn around their bowling unit’s woes. The fiery pacer is the leading wicket-taker in PSL history, and he’ll be looking to get back into the national team by giving it his all.

Islamabad, on the other hand, boasts a whole team of match-winners. Shadab Khan, Alex Hales, Hasan Ali, Asif Ali, and Paul Stirling are all capable of winning the match on their own, but our pick is a touch off the beaten path. Mohammad Wasim Jr. has proven his worth, and his accurate death bowling and power-hitting abilities make him an invaluable asset to any team in the world.
