PSL 2022 will be contested in Pakistan once again, with all games taking place in Lahore and Karachi. The PSL’s sixth season, according to speculations, will include new sites in Quetta and Peshawar, including Bugti Stadium and Arbab Niaz Stadium, respectively. Unexpected events, such as the COVID-19, posed difficulties for the places chosen this time. Multan and Rawalpindi have also been thrown out of this year’s event.

PSL 2022 Draft

The PSL 2022 draught was held on January 10th. As is customary, the tournament’s official dates were released a few weeks before the competition began. In the Pakistan Super League 2022 recruitment pool, find out which players were retained by their franchises and which new foreign talents are expected to thrive. Each team’s roster was limited to 18 players, and franchises were only allowed to keep a maximum of eight players.

PSL 2022 Draft Pick Order

Islamabad United, the two-time champions, were chosen first in the first round, followed by Multan Sultans. The defending champions, the Karachi Kings, were given the final say, as is traditional. The third team is the Lahore Qalandars, who will be seeking to capture their first PSL title this season. Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, both former champions, were given the fourth and fifth picks, respectively.

PSL 7 Draft Rules

All franchises had access to at least three players from the Platinum, Diamond, Gold, and Silver categories, as well as two players from the Emerging and Supplementary categories. PSL franchises will be able to exercise the wild card option starting in 2022. Franchises can use the wild card to change a player from a diamond to a platinum category, or from gold to diamond, and vice versa. Franchises could only employ this wild card option once throughout the draught. The following are the six franchises that will compete in the PSL in 2022:

Quetta Gladiators

The Quetta Gladiators have a decent chance of winning the Pakistan Super League in 2022. The 2019 victors appear to be in terrific form, with Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Dale Steyn, and Faf du Plessis in their roster. Quetta will be on the lookout for a few more intriguing names to add to their trophy cabinet.

Peshawar Zalmi

In the Pakistan Super League, Peshawar Zalmi is one of the most popular teams. In 2017, Zalmi took home the PSL title. Zalmi’s pace department appears to have been reduced this time around after the release of Hasan Ali, but they are a club known for their fighting spirit, and captain Wahab Riaz will be hoping to show off his leadership skills.

Islamabad United

Islamabad United is one of the best and most consistent teams in the Pakistan Super League. The only team to win the PSL twice is Islamabad United. Shadab Khan has proven to be a competent captain, and he will be pursuing the PSL title in 2022.

Karachi Kings

The Kings shocked archrivals Lahore Qalandars to win their first-ever PSL season in PSL 2020, defying the odds. The Karachi Kings are set to defend their title this season, thanks to players like Babar Azam and Mohammed Amir.

Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars have failed to reach the play-off stage in all prior editions of the Pakistan Super League. On the other hand, the Lahore Qalandars offered PSL 2020 fans reason to be hopeful by reaching the finals for the first time in their history. In PSL 2022, fans have high expectations for their club, and seasoned players like Mohammad Hafeez will be competing for the title.

Multan Sultans

The Pakistan Cricket Board introduced a sixth franchise to the PSL in 2018, bringing the total number of teams to six. Since the beginning, the Multan Sultans have been a lovely addition to the festival. The Sultans were a whisker away from making the PSL 2020 finals, but were unable to do so. Schön Properties was the team’s original owner.

The Multan Sultan owners failed to pay PCB their annual fee of US$5.2 million before the start of the PSL 2019 season, resulting in the contract expiring. In 2018, Ali Khan Tareen and Taimoor Malik were given the team’s rights, but they were unable to participate in the 2019 PSL season.

PSL 2022 Venues

Following the success of PSL 2020, the competition will return to Pakistan for its sixth season. PCB has chosen Lahore and Karachi as the cities for PSL 2022. PCB had planned to showcase two additional cities this year, Quetta and Peshawar, but due to the COVID-19 situation and unfinished building work, both Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar and Bugti Stadium in Quetta would be unavailable.

PSL 2022 Schedule

The PSL 2022 will follow the same format as the previous year. Before the playoffs and final, each team will play each other twice in the group stages. Because of the COVID-19 scenario, the opening ceremony for this year’s competition was taped in Pakistan and Turkey and televised before the first match.
