Wahab Riaz, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, is poised to miss their PSL 7 opener against Quetta Gladiators after testing positive for COVID-19.

In Wahab’s absence, Zalmi indicated that veteran middle-order hitter Shoaib Malik will lead the side. Wahab is currently in isolation and will re-join the squad once his quarantine time is completed and a negative test is returned.

According to reports, Hazratullah Zazai’s test result was also positive, and he would miss the forthcoming encounter.

The Yellow Storm are already without veteran wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal and youthful fast bowler Arshad Iqbal, who both tested positive for COVID-19. Imam-ul-Haq, the opener, and all-rounder Amad Butt, the all-rounder, have been named as Peshawar’s partial replacements.

On the 28th of January, Zalmi will play Quetta in their first encounter of the league at National Stadium Karachi. Quetta is dealing with its own issues, as Shahid Afridi has been ruled out of the first few games due to COVID-19.
